Giesen Pinot Noir 1988

Here is an email we received last week from Paddy — Good news on anyone who has some of our Pinot Noir in their cellar!

"Hi Giesen, Here's a little story that you might be interested in. Back in 1989 on my son's 1st birthday, he was given a bottle 1988 Pinoir Noir of yours by my brother Peter and his wife Tracey. The condition was that it was to be opened on his 21st birthday and shared between the three of them. Sam, my son, religiously throughout his life made sure Mum and dad did not drink his wine and looked forward to the day he was to share it with uncle and aunt. Sadly his 21st came around and Peter and Tracey could not make it as they were living in Australia. It was only a couple of weeks ago that they came back to NZ for a holiday and the opening ceremony was held. There were some worries about the state of the wine after so many years, we all thought it would be like vinegar as we had been told that Pinoir Noir only aged till about 5 years.

Well, they decided to decant it into a jug, then it was poured into three glasses. They did the usual sniffing and swerling and it passed the test! So it was decided to taste it all at the same time. It tasted great! My wife Shelley and I then tried it and sure enough, it was great. Definitely no vinegar taste. Well done Giesen!"
