LEGEND

DID NOT ADVANCE (DNA) - indicates the Entry did not advance from the First Phase judging into the Final Phase Judging With Food. Approximately 1,600 or 80% of the 2,000 entries cap were eliminated at this stage. In comparison with other shows who offer awards to a greater percentage of entrants, I know that sounds tough, but it means a great deal to the many consumers who recognise the integrity and reliability of bottles carrying the SIWC's Award Winners' bottle medallions. In the long run, the Competition's Award winners, winemakers, agents, retailers, but most importantly, consumers, all benefit. No other wine show demands such a rigorous, quadruple judging process, involving judging alongside appropriate food. (See Judges' Comments on the 2006 Competition website.)

FINALIST - indicates that your entry did advance from the First Phase judging, but did not receive sufficient aggregate points when judged alongside food to win an award from the Finals Judging Panel, in comparison with the other Finalists in that Style Category,. There is no SIWC Bottle Medallion specifically for Finalists, although in general, reaching the Finals indicates the wine was judged to be in the top 20 percent of the Total Entry and the achievement can be mentioned in, for example, your newsletters and fact sheets.

HIGHLY COMMENDED - wines are those entries which, when judged alongside appropriate food, the judges' marks in aggregate, pointed then into approximately the top 15% of the Total Entry. These wines are entitled to display the Competition's "Highly Commended - Judged with Food" gold-foil bottle medallion which bears the Competition's trademark logo .

BLUE-GOLD - Award indicates that the entry, when judged alongside appropriate food, was pointed into approximately the top 10% of the 2007 Total Entry and the wine is entitled to display the Competition's unique, Blue-Gold metallic bottle medallion, which bears the Competition's trademark logo.

TOP 1OO - Wines are also BLUE-GOLD Award winners, but the TOP 1OO ranking entitles them to wear the Competition's double-disc gold-foil BLUE GOLD -TOP1OO "Judged with Food" trademarked bottle medallion. TOP 1OO Wines carry the added distinction of being placed in approximately the top 5% of the 2007 Competition's entries.

BOTTLE MEDALLIONS

For Award winners, the official Sydney International Wine Competition Bottle Medallions are recognised all over the world, including in the restrictive European Union countries.
