GIESEN THE BROTHERS MARLBOROUGH CHARDONNAY 2005
TASTING NOTESThe colour is medium, straw gold. Lifted aromas of dry straw, apricot kernels, concentrated vanilla, creamy, nutty oak with a slight buttery character and a hint of funky complexity.
Good intensity with a rich, textural mouth feel and a slight viscosity. The wine finishes warm and powerful with a persistent, creamy finish.
WINEMAKING NOTESMany ‘experts’ predicted a less than average vintage due to inclement weather over flowering and fruit set. With average yields across our blocks the fruit quality was above average overall with many vineyards only showing their true quality once they were processed and fermenting in the winery. Giesen’s New Renwick Road vineyard produces premium Chardonnay year after year. In the winery only pure free run juice was used. The juice was inoculated with yeast in tank then transferred to barrel for fermentation in 57% new oak barrels the rest were 1 year old. The wine completed malolactic fermentation and was matured on yeast lees for 12 months prior to blending. A light casein fining and pad filtration prepared the wine for bottling.
These bottles are individually numbered, Giesen The Brothers Marlborough Chardonnay 2005 had a total of 930 bottles released from the Giesen Library stocks. This was released on 1st October 2009.
