Giesen's Single Vineyard Selection wines are released only when the quality of the grape and wine produced from a particular vineyard is outstanding.

This year the Adams Block Vineyard, located almost in the centre of Marlborough's Wairau Valley in Rapaura, was chosen to produce this superb wine.

The Rapaura area is generally more fertile and this vineyard had a very healthy, big, green leaf canopy. In the winery only premium free-run juice was used and inoculated with selected yeast for fermentation over four weeks at 13°c.

The fermented wine remained on yeast lees for almost three months to add more dimension to the aroma and depth to the palate before filtration then bottling in November 2005.

The result is a wine that is pleasingly different, with a rich concentration of intense fruit, ripe tropical and gooseberry flavours, and just a hint of honey. It is a satisfying wine on its own, or in good company with almost any food.

On its release this limited volume wine gained an early accolade by receiving a gold medal at the Royal Easter Show Wine Awards 2006 in New Zealand.
